The Healing Gallery

What Makes the Healing Gallery Unique

Resting inside the Healing Gallery
01

A Unique Therapeutic Climate

Deep inside the Radhausberg mountain, the Healing Gallery combines naturally occurring radon with temperatures of 37–41.5°C (98.6–106.7°F) and humidity of 75–100%. This combination is a globally unique healing climate.

A Tradition Since 1952

The therapeutic climate inside the mountain has been used since 1952. Today, the Healing Gallery operates as a medical therapy centre, with each participant’s treatment guided individually by its medical professionals.

03

The Therapy Experience

Guests travel approximately 2.5 kilometres into the mountain by train before resting at designated therapy stations in the warm, humid environment. After returning from the mountain, the Healing Gallery recommends approximately 30 minutes of relaxation.

A Multi-Session Experience

The Healing Gallery generally recommends 8–12 sessions over 2–3 weeks, although the appropriate program is determined individually. Our three-week retreat gives guests the time to experience their recommended sessions without rushing their stay.

The Healing Gallery

Why people come to the Healing Gallery

The Healing Gallery is not a one-time spa treatment. People come for a structured course of therapy, often over several weeks, with the aim of improving symptoms associated with chronic inflammatory and rheumatic conditions.

A typical course may involve 8–12 visits over 2–3 weeks, depending on the individual and the recommendations of the Healing Gallery’s medical team.

Who you'll travel with

In their words
Your Health, Your Family

Focus on your health, without putting family life on hold.

One of the biggest reasons we created this retreat is to give parents the time and space to actually focus on their own health.

While you attend Healing Gallery sessions, rest between treatments, use the thermal facilities, or simply take a slower day, your children can spend time with other worldschooling kids through supervised Kids Club activities.

The therapy focuses on the symptoms that can have the biggest impact on everyday life. Depending on your condition, that may mean pain, inflammation, mobility, fatigue, or overall wellbeing.

Pain & mobility

The Healing Gallery therapy is used with the aim of helping reduce pain and inflammation and supporting easier movement, especially for people living with rheumatic and chronic pain conditions.

Fatigue & overall wellbeing

For some people, the goal is not only pain relief, but also feeling less physically drained and improving overall wellbeing. This is especially relevant for conditions where fatigue is a major part of daily life.

Medication needs

Some people report needing less pain medication following a treatment course. Any changes to medication should always be made together with the doctor who manages your care.

Who Is the Healing Gallery For?

Conditions treated at the Healing Gallery

The Healing Gallery treats a range of chronic inflammatory, rheumatic, respiratory, skin, and pain conditions. Their doctors assess every person individually before treatment begins.

01

Allergies

Allergies are one of the respiratory and immune-related conditions treated at the Healing Gallery. The therapy is used with the aim of reducing inflammation and supporting symptom relief, depending on your individual health situation.

02

Rheumatoid arthritis

The Healing Gallery therapy is used to support people dealing with ongoing joint pain, inflammation, stiffness, and reduced movement. The aim is symptom relief and better day-to-day function, rather than treating the underlying cause of the disease.

03

Fibromyalgia

For fibromyalgia, the focus is often on widespread pain, muscle tension, fatigue, and overall wellbeing. The heat, humidity, and radon therapy are used as part of a treatment course designed to reduce symptom burden.

04

Bronchial asthma

Asthma is one of the respiratory conditions treated at the Healing Gallery. The aim is to help manage ongoing symptoms, with the doctors assessing each person individually before treatment.

05

Chronic sinusitis

People with chronic sinusitis also come to the Healing Gallery as part of its respiratory treatment program, with the goal of improving ongoing symptoms and overall wellbeing.

06

COPD

COPD is included among the respiratory conditions treated at the Healing Gallery. Because every case is different, the doctors assess each person individually before recommending a treatment plan.

07

Psoriasis & atopic dermatitis

Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are among the skin conditions treated at the Healing Gallery. The therapy focuses on symptom relief and inflammation, with the doctors also taking your individual health and heat tolerance into account.

08

Ankylosing spondylitis

One of the rheumatic conditions treated at the Healing Gallery. The therapy is used to help with pain, inflammation, stiffness, and mobility, with some people experiencing benefits that continue beyond the treatment period.

Other conditions the Healing Gallery also treats

The Healing Gallery also works with people living with osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative spinal and joint conditions, sarcoidosis, and other chronic pain conditions.

The therapy is focused on helping with symptoms and improving day-to-day wellbeing, rather than curing the underlying condition. Before starting, you’ll meet with the Healing Gallery’s medical team so they can review your health, make sure the therapy is appropriate for you, and recommend the right course of treatment.

These statements summarize materials supplied by the Healing Gallery and do not establish that every participant will benefit. This page does not replace professional medical advice.

Your Healing Gallery Treatment Plan

You’ll be medically screened before you fully commit.

You do not need to already have a specialist or a doctor who understands the Healing Gallery therapy.

Before you fully commit, you’ll have an online consultation with a local doctor familiar with the Healing Gallery. They’ll review your health history, symptoms, medications, previous treatments, and any factors that could affect whether the therapy is suitable for you.

This gives you a much clearer idea of whether the Healing Gallery makes sense for your health situation before you travel to Austria.

1

Start with an online doctor consultation

You’ll first speak online with a local doctor who can review your health and discuss whether Healing Gallery therapy may be appropriate for you.

2

Know before you travel

The goal is to identify any concerns, contraindications, or reasons the therapy may not be suitable before you fully commit to the treatment.

3

Meet the Healing Gallery doctors in Austria

Once you arrive, you’ll complete the Healing Gallery’s own medical assessment. Their doctors will confirm whether the therapy is appropriate for you and recommend the course that makes sense for your individual situation.

4

Begin your treatment course

Once you’ve been medically cleared, you can begin your Healing Gallery sessions following the schedule recommended for you.

Inside the Mountain

What a Healing Gallery session actually looks like

Once you’ve been medically cleared and have your treatment plan, a small train takes you around two kilometres into the Radhausberg mountain. Inside, different therapy stations combine naturally occurring radon, heat, and high humidity, with the setting chosen for you based on your individual health and heat tolerance.

01

Travel into the mountain

You board the small gallery train and travel deep into the mountain to your assigned therapy station.

02

Rest at your therapy station

Once there, you spend about an hour resting in the warm, humid environment while the treatment takes place.

03

Give yourself time to recover

After leaving the mountain, the Healing Gallery recommends around 30 minutes of rest. That recovery time is part of the treatment rhythm, not something you have to rush through.

For the Kids

You get three weeks to focus on feeling better. Your kids get the trip of a lifetime.

While you have the time and space to focus on your health and wellness, your children get three weeks of swimming, play, new friendships, and activities, all while surrounded by other worldschooling families.

While you have the time and space to focus on your health, your children get three weeks of swimming, play, new friendships, and activities, all while surrounded by other worldschooling families.

That means your Healing Gallery sessions, recovery time, and slower days don’t come at the expense of their experience. While you’re taking care of yourself, they’re having an adventure of their own.

    Before Treatment

A few important things to know before treatment

The Healing Gallery is a controlled medical setting, and every person is assessed before beginning therapy. Because the treatment involves radon, heat, and high humidity, it’s important to discuss it with your doctor and make sure it’s appropriate for your individual health situation.

Radon is radioactive, and prolonged indoor exposure is associated with lung-cancer risk. The exposure inside the Healing Gallery is time-limited and medically supervised, so this is something to weigh together with your doctor based on your diagnosis, treatment history, smoking exposure, medications, and overall health.

The Healing Gallery treatment is arranged directly with their medical team and is separate from your retreat booking.

When the therapy may not be suitable

The Healing Gallery advises against treatment during pregnancy and with untreated hyperthyroidism. They also recommend waiting at least one year after cancer treatment.

If you have severe cardiovascular or kidney disease, an acute infection, claustrophobia, or difficulty tolerating heat and humidity, speak with the Healing Gallery doctors before planning treatment.

And if you take prescribed medication, any changes should always be made together with the doctor who manages your care.
